Mission

To improve the ecnomic health of the weavers of the state by providing them forward and backward linkeages through the cooperative system and to emerge as a leading marketing organisation of handloom products.

History

WEAVCO, the Punjab State Handloom Weavers Apex Coopereative Society Limited is an apex body of Primary Weavers Cooperative Socities. It is providing various facilities to its member socities including marketing infrastructure as well as processing facilities at Amritsar and Hoshiarpur. It has 24 marketing outlets within and outside the state.

The Punjab State Handlooms Weavers Apex Co-operative Society Limited, Chandigarh, popularly known as WEAVCO, was regulated in 1969. From a humble beginning of 38 member societies, the growth of WEAVCO has been spectacular, with  total membership has risen to 888 by the end of year 1999-2000. This strength is an indicator of the deep sense of co-operative ideology that exists amongst the weavers of Punjab. Weavco is a Punjab Government approved source for supplies of handloom fabrics for Government and other undertakings.

The Weavco is providing following facilities to its member Societies.

  1. Providing marketing infrastructure through a chain of 24 showrooms within and outside the State of Punajb.

  2. Providing excise free cotton yarn at the doors steps of the member societies.

  3. Providing processing facilities through Process House at Amritsar.
